How do Vegan-Vegetarian mothers breast-feed there new borns?

What kind of liquid nutrition is provided for the vegan-baby and for how long is the feeding process during there growth into children ages?

I would imagine in the same way that a carnivore breast-feeds their newborn. Duh!

I’m sure they do it the same way meat-eating mothers do it. They put their nipple in the baby’s mouth.

Are you suggesting the baby should be a vegan too? I think most doctors would advise a regular diet for the baby…including milk.

most (not all) vegans claim that they choose not to eat animal products for the betterment of said animals. If they were really not in it for themselves, then it wouldn’t matter to them that they were using their own "animal product"

The nutrition comes from breast milk.

That’s the whole point of breastfeeding, isn’t it?

    I’m vegetarian and I had two big babies, 9lb 10oz and 9lb 5oz girls.
I breast fed both of them and they gained loads of lovely weight because I ate healthly. Make sure you eat a lot of protein.
I’m letting them decide if they want to become vegetarians themselves though.

What a dumb question. Every female mammal produces the exact type of milk to suit the dietary needs of their young. So a true vegetarian, vegan hasnt a problem! You can continue as long as the baby needs the milk and the Mum is happy to breast feed. I breast fed three children , long term and I am vegetarian. They are all healthy with good immune systems…and if they want to eat meat products now that they are older, they do…or they dont….Its now up to them.

Most vegan/vegetarians don’t have a problem with breast feeding.

Cows milk is for baby cows. People milk for baby people — at least for vegans it’s that way. Some vegetarians drink cow milk.

All the required nutrition for a human being can be acquired from more sources than just animal products. If a veggie knows what they are doing, they get all the nutrition they need and can breast-feed just like anyone else with no worries for nutrition problems to the baby.

You could breast-feed your baby. No animal would be suffering for it, so until the baby doesn’t need milk anymore, breast-feeding is just fine. =)

Vegan/ Vegetarian mothers breast feed THEIR newborns rather well. All it takes is some determination of not wanting to succumb to the formula companies’ hype of formula being just as good! So then are you really asking how does the process work (cause I could provide slide shows on the milk ducts and the suckling process and the name off the hormones that trigger the production of milk), or do veg*n mothers breastfeed? If it’s the latter, The answer is yes! We make our own milk for our species (though I did offer some of mine up for a kitten that was taken from his momma a little early) as the cows and goats make their own milk for their own species. So if this is the way nature intended it as proof shows that human milk is higher in Omega- 3 fatty acids for brain development compared to cow’s milk high is saturated fats for quick fatty growth, why would we not feed our children the proper milk/ perfect food?? As for the feeding process? Do you mean how long do you provide the breast milk to the child? Well that then becomes a very personal decision. The AAP recomends AT LEAST one year while the WHO recommends AT LEAST two years and both say continuing as long as mutually desired by both mom and baby! However, most (not all cause my first was an early weaner) babes are not wanting to wean at a year, that is the choice of the mom. There are many studies suggesting children should not be weaned prior to when they are ready (anywhere from 2.5-5 years w/ encouragement) so that emotionally they are not torn from their "security blanket," as most people wouldn’t take away a favorite teddy or actual blanket. And some might conclude that these are two different things, but in reality of a baby, who are we to say it’s different when they do not know the words to express themselves in this manner. But as according to nature, it is believed that weaning doesn’t naturally occur till age 7! Becauseof many views, this is why it becomes a personal choice. As for me and mine, I believe in child led weaning w/ encouragment after the age of 3, for maximum nutrition (the nutrition doesn’t deplete because the child gets bigger, it actually doubles per serving because less instances are happening throughout the day in order to keep the nutritional value equal to what it was during exclusively being breast fed) and emotional stability. Does that help?

    Is this a joke?

They breastfeed like anyone else would… did you think they’d do it upside down while juggling or something?

Umm and to the second question… they drink… breastmilk.

    Seriously, is this a joke?

    HER QUESTION IS NOT DUMB!
Y’ALL DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE’S ASKING!
She is asking can a Vegan breast-feed their children but due to the fact that a Vegan "may" lack certain nutrients.
She was also asking does the baby need a supplement liquid nutrition just in case. It may not be good for a Vegan to breast feed a baby because the breast milk may not be "sufficent enough."

I am guessing that a Vegan person’s diet is probalury adaqaute enough to breast-feed a newborn, and that the newborn may or may not need liquid nutrition. It really depends on the baby,
because my aunt tried breast-feeding her baby (a non-vegan) but the baby wasn’t gaining any wait, so she stopped. A Vegan may have the same problem since they may lack protein.

They use a celery stalk as a "nipple" and then they poor carrot juice down the little funnel part of the celery. People are animals and we can’t give animal products to our babies. We must only feed them the milk of plants. PRAISE PLANTS!!!

well they could either buy a nutitional suplement mix in from a store but make sure its spring water cuz the chemicals can be in hazardous doses for babies. for breat feeding the protein comes from nuts and beans that the vegan eats now im not sure if vegans drink milk because it comes from cows but if they drink soy milk there is the calcium this supplements the child with nutrients after they can eat things like gerber you use less breast milk gradualling to the mix eventul to pediapred and juice and stuff

Vegan mothers are very much pro-breastfeeding.
They do it the way all mothers (should) do it, with their breasts.
Breastfeeding exclusively for 8 months, then slowly introducing easy to digest foods from then on (but continuing to breast feed) such as steamed and mashed root vegetables, mushed up fresh fruit, rice baby congee, … nothing processed at all. No ‘baby’ cereal. No ‘baby’ food, but *real* food.

Anyway, most vegan mothers are more knowledgeable than non-vegan mothers it seems. Also, utilized the care of midwives etc. too whom provide them will the skills and basic knowledge they may not have learnt from their parents.
