im thinking of getting
royal canin MINI canine health nutrition special 30
or
solid gold just a wee bit small breed adult maintenance dog food
or
natural balance ultra premium dog food
right now im feeding my maltese &chihuahua mix nutro natural choice small bites but i dont now if thats THE best food for him i have trouble finding a small enough food for him b/c if the bits of food are to big its hard for him to chew it so thats why i got the small bites food but now i want something better,so out of the 3 that ive listed which 1 is better? or is natural choice small bites better than the rest?
where can i find canidae or innova dog food ive been loking everywhere for but i cant find it
Some simple rules for choosing a dog food.
First ingredient is meat, type doesn’t matter. Just make sure it’s not vague description that makes you wonder the type. More meat in the first 5 ingredients the better. Fresh meat is best, but a lot of moisture (could be less protein than originally thought after moisture is removed), dried meat is call meal. I personally avoid by-products, they are generally cheap remnants that are not normally consumed by humans (organs mostly) hearts and livers are okay imo, but by-product could have less desirable parts too.
Avoid corn, wheat, and soy. Find a food that uses whole grains. I like oats, barley, brown rice (not brewers rice). Corn, wheat, and soy are common allergens, hard to digest, and lack much nutritional value. Watch for grain splitting (listing the same grain multiple times noting every part like corn, corn gluten meal, corn meal, etc) that can raise the amount of that grain to exceed the amount of meat.
Stay away from artificial colors, flavors and preservatives (BHT, BHS, ethoxyquin are common preservatives that are banned in human food because they are carcinogenic). Mixed tocopherols are a natural preservative that you can find.
The lowest quality food I recommend is Nutro Max. Get the best you can afford. I like Blue Buffalo, Solid Gold, and Timberwolf Organics.
Hope that helps

Out of those 3… definately Solid Gold.
I would recommend Innova, Canidae, or Timberwolf Organics over Solid Gold though.

out of all, solid gold is the better choice. It’s grain-free (which is REALLY good) and it’s really healthy for them. I’d feed your dog Solid Gold

Yes solid gold appears to have a good rep. I would go for that I prefer diamond dog food my self.

I actually think that the Propac is better. They have a formula for small dogs in a mini chunk. Very good for them and makes their coats look great. I know you can get it a Pet Warehouses, but I’m not sure where else. Also they have multiple different flavors, so when you pick it, you should bring your dogs with you and let them pick the flavor they like best. I’ve been feeding it to mine their whole life. Good luck.
